I have never visited Newbiggin by the sea before but when I saw that Melanie’s Tea Room had just won another Award I had the perfect excuse to go.
After a stroll along the beach I walked through to the main street and along to the tea room where I was greeted by Melanie, Paul and the most gorgeous Jackapoo puppy called Lola.
I enjoyed a perfect pot of Ringtons tea and a beautifully moist slice of carrot cake. The tea room offers a range of hot and cold drinks, homemade cakes, scones and even the full afternoon tea experience.
The award recently won by the cafe, was in recognition of their work for Northumberland day. Melanie makes full use of the amazing local produce available to serve up delights such as homemade sausage rolls and Northumbrian cheese scones.
The Northumbie Award 2019 for the Most Passionate Pub, Cafe or Tearoom, is one of 4 well deserved awards they have one in the 2 years since opening. They have even won an award for the loo!
So if you are in the area, or like me have time to make a detour en route to Newcastle, then pop in. I definitely recommend the carrot cake.
